dzin3r wrote:Come across your site within the phpBB community, just thought i'd offer my opinions being a web designer myself. I know this is a beta version so i've only higlighted the major mistakes.

1. The google ads u have on the home page open in the same window, not very good on the eyes ;)

2. On opening your forum I noticed I have to scroll to the right in 1024x768 and below, very very bad design practice.

3. On opening phpBB page doesn't validate although u have the icon stating it does.

4. On the home page constantly get a script error.

Hope this helps

Hi dzin3r,

1 - Thats out of my control, google's ad code does that
2 - I've only ever had that problem in IE, as IE always is unsure of its horizontal spacing, so it throws in a scroll bar when not needed.
3 - There's only one page of these forums that doesn't validate (due to a problem with how phpBB deals with code and <li> apprently). Every other page will validate, including this one.
4 - What script error do you get? I belive it might be related to either the google ads or the blogshares ads, both of which use Javascript. Without the error I can't fix it :)

You should of received a confirmation e-mail. You'll need that to confirm your account.

1. Take it out of the frame, maybe?
2. Thats the problem, horizontal scrolling is needed to view the entire page in IE, I know we all hate IE, but, can't exclude majority of users.
3. Fair enough
4. Script error has gone now, was a Jscript error tho fyi

1) Its not actually in a frame. See, the front page is fully valid XHTML 1.1 to any browser that can accept application/xml+xhtml. To IE, its forced down to 1.0 and text/html. However, Google Ads don't work outright with XHTML 1.1 due to the DOM level they run as. So to get the ads to display, I use an <object> tag. Unfortunatly IE craps this up as well, and makes it have that fugly border.

2) Yeah, I think its also due to #1. When I redesign the site (soon, you'll see!), I'll fix this problem with a lot more conditional checking and code. It will be sweet, but a pain to do. :)

This is a slightly modded phpBB install. You can get it from phpBB's download page.

The version number is my best touch, if you want to know what version I've got, you have to work for it :)

Well yes but you're a team member, so it's fairly certain what version you're using 8)
